The mode is actually better defined as a movie because you’ll be watching most of it and won’t have any effect on it. Lee hasn’t directed a good movie since 2006’s "Inside Man," and he hasn’t written a good one since the late '90s with "He Got Game" and "Summer of Sam." It really shouldn’t be a surprise that the story and dialogue are poor for the most part. It’s not at all integral to the story and would have been better left out considering people are swapping in their own avatars. Besides that, there's thisbizarre obsession with pointing out over and over, and in different ways, the fact that he and his sister are twins. It’s hard to take very seriously a main character beingcalled Frequency Vibrations. The ending was crafted to manipulate the viewer’s emotions but falls flat because it wasn’t properly earned. It does improve as it gets further into it but is never able to make a true connection. Unfortunately, the story is plagued by caricatures and cliches, exposition dumps, and cringe-worthy dialogue particularly early on. The main character is much more relatable, the voice acting and motion capture work is excellent, and events within are more grounded and realistic. The story now begins in high school, progresses through college, and continues through the first year in the pros. Though it proved to be extremely popular, it suffered from over-the-top scenarios, main characters that few were able to identifywith (especially given that theyweresupposed to be “your” guy), and unbelievably poor voice acting.Īll of those issues were addressed in "NBA 2K16"’s M圜areer mode which was written and directed by Spike Lee.

The career mode in the NBA 2K series took a turn two years ago when it became more of a narrative-driven interactive story.
